I believe healing begins with understanding and sharing our life’s story with someone who isn’t afraid to help us examine the dark stuff. I’ve been there, I’ve had hurts too big to hold on my own. I’ve passed go so many times without questioning what was really going on deep down or asking myself how I was really feeling that it all caught up to me. I was someone who didn’t like asking for help, but as you might have guessed I really needed some guidance to assess and reorganize what wasn’t working. I needed someone to truly witness my story and healing. As a therapist that is exactly what I hope to do with my clients.
My approach is person-centered and grounded. I’m direct and authentic. I’m relational, I like to laugh with my clients, occasionally I’ve shared a tear with them too. I don’t do the fluffy stuff, but I believe a little mindfulness can carry us a long way. I’m not your typical blank face therapist. I don’t even own a poker face, so I’m definitely going to be real with you, no sugarcoating here. Maybe that’s a lot to swallow, maybe it leads you to think I’m a therapist with a shortage of kindness and empathy, but I promise you the opposite is true. The lack of sugar just means that I’m here, I’m able, willing, and honored to sit with you in the muck. My hope is that because we’ve sat in the darkness together, you’ll learn to trust me when I’m reflecting your strengths. While I believe it is important to understand our histories, past hurts, and how they shape our current patterns and beliefs, I also bring a practical, solution-focused lens to help you begin to make steps towards change from the very beginning of therapy. Together, we can make sense of the relationship and lifestyle patterns you want to change.
I have a long history working with adolescents, teens, and young adults to help them stare down some big stuff like trauma, addiction, anxiety, depression, and relational problems. Have you heard the old saying “where there is great sadness, there is great joy” I believe that, but there’s a catch… sometimes we need help tapping into our joy, creativity, and authenticity and that’s where therapy can be really helpful.
More recently I’ve been honored to walk with women navigating early motherhood, pregnancy, postpartum, fertility, and loss. I have Advanced Perinatal Mental Health Training through Postpartum Support International (PSI). The journey to motherhood never looks or feels the way we imagine it would. Unfortunately there are a lot of stereotypes, stigmas, misconceptions, and misguided cultural beliefs to wade through. How can pregnancy and postpartum feel so impossibly heavy, scary, and overwhelming, while simultaneously bringing the deepest sense of joy and contentment? Or maybe none of that rings true for you and the days are clouded with the darkness of depression, rage, or crushing anxiety. No matter what you’re feeling the perinatal season of our lives is not meant to be navigated alone.
Regardless of what you’re going through, reach out to someone and remember no feeling lasts forever. If you’ve made it this far and feel like we might be a good fit, send a request. I look forward to connecting, witnessing your story, and eventually seeing your smile on the other side of the darkness.
